A historic fortress on the banks of the Vrbas River in the heart of the city. The site has been fortified since antiquity, and the current walls largely date from the Ottoman period. Today it is a popular spot for walks, summer concerts and festivals.
This 16th-century Ottoman mosque, built in 1579, was destroyed in 1993 during the war. It was meticulously reconstructed using original techniques and materials, and reopened in 2016 as a symbol of cultural heritage.
