Lokale gidsen

You know which alley has the oldest shop sign, where the bakery opens at 6 and why the bridge has three different colours of stone. Right now that knowledge only pays when you are standing in front of a group. Visitors who arrive on a Tuesday in November, a family that wants to go at their own pace, or a group of 40 that no single guide can handle all go elsewhere. A GPS scavenger hunt turns your route into something people can buy and walk without you, while your live tours stay exactly as they are.

How it gets used

Hotel and B&B guests after check-in

Guests arrive at 3 or 4 pm, too late for your morning tour and too early for dinner. The reception hands them your hunt, they walk 90 minutes through the neighbourhood and you earn on a group you never met.

Hen and stag parties on Saturday afternoon

Groups of 8 to 14 want something between lunch and the bar, with photos and a bit of competition. A hunt with photo tasks and a finish at a café you have an arrangement with covers 2 pm to 4 pm without you having to manage the noise.

Company outings too big for one guide

An HR manager calls with 40 colleagues on a Thursday afternoon. Split them into 8 teams of 5, start them five minutes apart from the station, and run the debrief and prize-giving yourself at the end.

School classes and family visits

A class of 28 arriving at 9:30 works better in teams of 4 with a question at every stop than as one long line behind you. Families with children from 8 upwards can walk the same route on a Sunday, at their own speed and with a break at the playground.

Practical tips

Start and finish at places that are easy to find and have a toilet, such as the station square or a café you already work with; it saves you the 'where are you' phone calls.
Write questions that can only be answered on the spot, like the number of windows on a facade or the year on a plaque, so people actually look at the building instead of searching online.
Offer a shorter 60-minute version and a 2-hour version of the same route; cruise passengers and parents with young children pick the short one, couples on a city break the long one.
Ask a hotel, hostel or the tourist office to sell access for a share of the price; a stack of cards at the reception desk does more than another post on social media.

Frequently asked questions

You decide how you sell access: as a separate ticket on your website, as an add-on to your live tour, or through partners like a hotel reception or the tourist office. A typical price sits between 5 and 15 euros per person, or 25 to 60 euros per group, depending on length and what your live tours cost.

No. Players follow the route on their own phone, the GPS unlocks each stop when they arrive, and the questions and stories run without you. Most guides check the results afterwards or send a short message when the group finishes.

Aim for 8 to 12 stops over 2 to 3 kilometres, which takes a group about 90 minutes including photos and a coffee stop. Cruise passengers or hotel guests arriving at 4 pm rarely want more than that.

You log in and change the stop, the question or the coordinates yourself; the next group sees the update. Walk your own route once every few months, especially before the summer season and after roadworks in the old centre.

Yes, many guides split a group of 20 into teams of 4 or 5 for a 30-minute challenge halfway through a tour, then gather again at a square or café. It gives you a break, keeps teenagers busy and gives corporate groups the competitive element they ask for.

If you can write a tour script and drop a pin on a map, you can build a hunt. Expect to spend one afternoon on your first route: choosing stops, writing 8 to 12 questions and testing it on the street with a friend.
