Oost-Vlieland is the only village on Vlieland, one of the smallest inhabited Wadden islands in the Netherlands. Its single main street, the Dorpsstraat, is lined with old lime trees, historic captains' houses and cosy cafés, while the North Sea beach and vast dunes are just a short walk away. Car-free and relaxed, it is a true island escape reached by ferry from Harlingen.

The red lighthouse stands on the Vuurboetsduin, one of the highest dunes on the island, and offers sweeping views over the village, the Wadden Sea and the North Sea. The tower was originally built in IJmuiden in 1878 and moved to Vlieland in 1909.
Housed in the oldest building on the island, dating back to 1575, this museum tells the story of Vlieland and displays the work of the Norwegian painter Betzy Akersloot-Berg, who lived here for decades.
The village church on the Kerkplein dates from 1605 and is one of the oldest buildings in Oost-Vlieland. Inside you will find model ships and memorial plaques that reflect the island's seafaring past.
